Car Insurance Sterling (Car Insurance). How to boost fuel economy of you car when the fuel prices are going up?How to boost fuel economy of you car when the fuel prices are going up? Even if I use premium oil for my car Lexus ES300, I want to know how can I boost my car's fuel economy? Using synthetic oil might marginally improve your fuel economy when the engine is cold, but not enough to justify the price. There are no contraptions you can buy that will improve your fuel economy either, despite any claims you might read. Every time fuel prices go up, scams proliferate. Consumer Reports just did an article on this: Tuneup by Lexus and tires inflated hi but not too hi. i dont know! same answer for last 100 years,,,keep it tuned up,,keep proper air in tires and drive easy,,oil isnt gona make a difference you can see Maintain correct tire pressure, be regular with oil changes, change air filter every 12000 miles, get rid of excess weight (like a full trunk), accelerate slowly. Those are probably the best ways to get the most out of a gallon of gas. Obviously the car needs to be in top running condition so make sure it is properly tuned up, the filters are all clean and the tires are properly inflated at all times. Premium doesn't have more "power" or "Efficiency" than lower grades of gas. It just spontaniously combusts at higher temperatures. (IE, it reduces engine ping where it is an issue.) Pedro nailed it for you. Just follow his advice and you'll do fine. He's 100% correct. Or slow down to the speed limit. Or place a 2 x 4 block of wood under the gas pedal. But all that won’t significantly reduce fuel consumption. The engine size makes it an excellent git gone machine, but its just too big for good mileage. Either trade for something smaller or a hybrid or an alternative fuel like CNG. Depending on where you live, CNG (compressed natural gas) is the best thing going. In my area it is equivalent to $1.40 per gallon. I've heard 65 cents in Utah. There are several conversion kits available. Google CNG kits and read up on whether it might be right for your needs. Conversion on a Lexus ES300 would not be the cheapest, which is around $1800. If you vehicle is properly maintained and in good running order the ONLY way to increase fuel economy is to change YOU, not the car. "Premium" oil certainly isn't going to do anything. The car is going to get whatever mileage it gets. It is up to the driver to maximize that, which almost nobody does. Auto parts : Arm Rest Acura 1995 . Blower Pressure Gauge Alfa Romeo 1996 . I was driving behind a slow small car, i could see through the back window it was two girls and there was a baby, probably why they were going a bit slow for the traffic. i was a good boy at this time and kept a good distance. the girls approached a roundabout at a slow to reasonable rate and then they seemed to panic a little bit, breaking and rolling and finally deciding to go for it. id left space, like a good little lad, so i could see id make it too if i was lucky, but then a little chav-mobile came round at pace meaning i had to brake..,not very suddenly...but pretty sharp. Then i heard a loud thud and i shot forward a bit, someone crashed into the back of my car. The woman involved was very nice and apologetic and said it was her first accident. I looked at our cars and saw the damage was pretty damn small. My boot wouldnt close right and there was a bit of a dent. nothing broken off. So i have her details and her admission of liability. I stopped off at at a panel beater for all of 10 minutes (if that long). He took the car in, asked what happened, inspected it, i heard a few loud bangs and he called me back out. He explained some of the rear structure had been pushed in a bit, showed me a little dent inside where the spare wheel cover should lift up, it gives a little trouble to lift it but nothing difficult, theres a bit of a warp in the bumper on close examination. very superficial really. the boot now closes fine - no charge. Then the mechanic clamly explained to me, in the way that only tradesmen can that the cost would be ...oh.... a mere two grand.... cause im such a nice guy. All well and good except that thats about 80% of the price of the car ...lol. so now im thinking .... go to the womans insurance company, insurance industry has incorrectly ruled against me in the past, with my 2 grand estimate, pick up cheque and then lmao as i drive away in my 2002 car which i would probably never sell on anyway. A mere dent and 2 grand in the hand, plus no official or intended dishonesty on my part. 2 grand practically free seems disproportionate though, plus that nice womans rate might go up, i did brake a bit unusually, and what if she offers to pay cash outside of the insurance...how would i take her money from her as i know i can live with the minor damage just fine ....although id rather not have the little damage and the mechanic does say 2 grand. so lol my way to insurance company, (sweet honest guys that they are) en route to the bank? her rate will still probably go up. alternatively what about walking up to this nice woman and giving her an estimate for 2 grand from my local registered panel beaters for damage you almost have to search for. thats about it i guess. what to do? car insurance. Sterling . How to Check Engine Light on 1995 C280 MercedesThe 1995 Mercedes C280 was offered with a 2.8-liter, dual overhead cam, in-line 6-cylinder engine. The on-board diagnostics (OBD) system of the vehicle monitors engine controls, fuel regulation, emissions regulations, transmission trouble codes and many other sensors in the vehicle, which the engine control computer constantly adjusts. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need OBD scan tool Pen and paper Step by Step : 1 Park and turn off the vehicle's ignition. Open and secure the hood of the C280. Go to the passenger side of the engine bay, near the firewall, which is the wall between the engine and the driver's compartment. Locate the OBD port in the upper passenger corner of the firewall. Connect the OBD code scanner to the OBD port. Set the scanner on the upper strut mount, or a flat surface of the vehicle. 2 Sit in the driver's seat of the car and turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position. The accessories position is the ignition position where all of the dashboard lights come on, but the vehicle does not start. Do not start the vehicle during this testing procedure. 3 Exit the vehicle and go back to the scanner. Power on the scanner with the power button. From the main menu on the scanner, choose "Read Engine Codes" and press the "READ" button. The scanner will prompt you to enter your vehicle year, make, model and sometimes the engine size. Enter all of the requested information, pressing the "READ" button to accept each answer. If you make a mistake, press the "ERASE" button to go back one step. 4 Allow the code scanner to read the vehicle during the scanning process. Write down the information produced by the scanner, using a pen and paper. Some scanners will give you the engine codes followed by a generic definition of the code. More expensive scanners offer complete code definitions, as well as information on the part of the vehicle that is the source of the code. Tips & Warnings Check your local auto parts stores, such as Autozone, which may scan your vehicle's engine code free of charge. Computer software, such as OBDLink 2.0, has been developed that allows the user to link a vehicle directly to a laptop computer to read OBD and OBD-II engine codes. Do not erase the engine code unless the proper repair work has been performed on the vehicle to eliminate the code's source. Failure to do so could cause electrical failure, engine failure and engine fire, as the OBD system controls emission and fuel control of the vehicle.

*is doing its job, and the trouble is farther up the line. Be sure to shut off the engine before the fuel overflows the can, and be careful not to spill the gasoline — it can ignite easily. If your fuel pump does need replacing, a rebuilt one is often as good as a new one, and a lot less expensive. If you're feeling adventurous, some manufactur ers supply rebuild kits. You can take your pump apart with a screwdriver and rebuild it yourself, following the directions on the kit. If that idea doesn't enchant you, ask your service facility to locate and install a rebuilt fuel pump. It should be guaranteed for at least three months. Checking and Servicing \lour PCV Vattfe If your engine has been idling roughly, you may want to check the PCV valve (shown in Figure 13-5) before you make other adjustments. 618

Originally, these fumes were simply dispelled into the air through a tube, because if they were left to accumulate, they would foul the oil in the crankcase. Since the early 1960s, a method called positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) has been in general use. This is much more efficient and desirable: Instead of allowing exhaust fumes to pollute the air, the method reroutes them back to the intake manifold so that they can be reburned in the cylinders along with the rest of the fuel/air mixture. PCV also increases fuel economy, because the engine can run on the fuel in the exhaust fumes as well as on the regular fuel/air mixture. Not every vehicle has a PCV valve, but most do. If yours has one, check the PCV valve every time you do a tune-up to make sure that it isn't clogged with sludge from the contaminants in the exhaust fumes. If it ceases to function, the fuel/air mixture that has been adjusted to take these fumes into consideration will go out of balance, and your vehicle won't operate as efficiently. Most car manufacturers suggest that you clean and replace PCV valves after about 12,000 miles of driving. Locating your PCV VaiVe To locate your PCV valve, use these tips: *-* On fuel-injected engines, the PCV valve may be located in the intake manifold or inside the valve cover (see Figure 13-6). Part III: Keeping Your Car in Good Condition, System by System 27It Figure 13-7: A PCV valve located on the valve cover, with the hose that leads to it removed. Some PCV valves screw into the base of the carburetor; some push into a rubber grommet in the valve cover at the end of the hose that leads from there to the carburetor; and still others screw or push into the oil filler cap or tube. Pick the one that seems easiest for you: * Method 1: With the engine idling, pinch the hose hard to shut off any air that may be going through it, but don't puncture the hose. If the PCV valve is operating, the idle speed should drop perceptibly; you'll be able to hear the change. ^ Method 2: Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover, with the hose still attached, and place your finger over the open end of it (see Figure 13-8). If it's working well, you will feel strong suction. * Method 3: Remove the oil filler cap from the valve cover and place a stiff piece of paper over the opening. If your PCV valve is working properly, the paper should be sucked against the hole within seconds. Figure 13-8: One way to checkyour PCV valve. .Chapter 13: Keeping Your Fuel System in Tune Checking the PCV Valve hose While you have the PCV valve off, check the hose by removing it and blowing through it. If the hose is dry, brittle, soft and spongy, or full of sludge or hard deposits, replace it. When everything is shipshape once more, reassemble the hose and valve and put them back on.
